Why?
Every year about 25,000 new cases of kidney cancer are diagnosed and 13,000 patients die in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. RCC is an important medical and social problem for European part of C.I.S. First, due to an increase in the incidence for all stages and in the mortality rate for RCC. Second, due to a limited efficacy of any therapy for metastatic disease. Nevertheless, there is practically no donation for basic and clinical research from government.
Aim
To improve kidney cancer research, prevention, early detection and new target treatment of this tumor;
To support kidney cancer patients and their families;
To interact with volunteers and leading oncologists from different cancer centers.
Program
Marathon "World without Kidney Cancer" will be held in Moscow, Russia (25 August 2007), Kiev, Ukraine (19 September 2007), Minsk, Belarus (23 September 2007) and will consist of:
- Demonstrations (3 hours) - Exhibitions of kidney cancer patient’ photos - Informing the public of the importance of problem through relations with Mass-Media
Total number of participants
About 1000 participants in demonstrations and 5000 participants via exhibitions.
Organizers
Kidney Cancer Research Bureau (KCRB)
KCRB is a Russian non-profit non-government research organization. KCRB was established this year and based on different cancer centers and oncology departments in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Kazan and Vladivostok.
The aims of the KCRB are to develop, conduct, coordinate, and stimulate laboratory and clinical research in Russia and C.I.S. to improve the management of kidney cancer and related problems by increasing survival but also patients' quality of life.
